Playing Style
What makes Crystal Beasts unusual among monster-based strategies is that their members are designed to be destroyed. Each Crystal Beast carries a replacement effect that allows it to remain on the field as a Continuous Spell Card rather than going to the Graveyard when destroyed in a Monster Zone, and almost every spell and trap in the archetype either deposits monsters into the Spell & Trap Zone or draws power from the number already sitting there. Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus accelerates this process the moment it is Summoned, placing any Crystal Beast from the hand, Deck, or Graveyard directly into the Spell & Trap Zone, while Crystal Bond adds a monster to the hand and plants a second one in the Zone simultaneously. Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins then converts that accumulation into tangible advantages — negating spells and traps, drawing cards, and eventually reviving monsters — scaling its abilities with every additional Crystal Beast present.
The deck's broader plan is to gather seven differently named Crystal Beasts across the field and Graveyard, unlocking Rainbow Dragon and Rainbow Overdragon through their Summoning conditions or via Rainbow Gravity, which ignores those conditions entirely. Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon bridges the two halves by fetching an Ultimate Crystal monster to hand while also deploying a lower-level Crystal Beast from the Deck. Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive represents the ceiling: once seven differently named Crystal Beasts are banished, it reaches 9000 ATK, and its Quick Effect can clear the entire field before returning those banished monsters to play.
Going first, the deck builds its Spell & Trap Zone presence through Sapphire Pegasus, Crystal Bond, and Crystal Tree, establishing Ancient City as a resilient disruption tool. Crystal Abundance offers a dramatic going-second line, sacrificing four Crystal Beasts in the Spell & Trap Zone to wipe the board and immediately replace them with monsters from the Graveyard — a recovery and offence play compressed into a single card.
