Unlike most Synchro-oriented archetypes that lean on dedicated Tuner monsters, Nordics are built so that several of their non-Tuner monsters can substitute for a Tuner during a Synchro Summon — Vanadis of the Nordic Ascendant and Nordic Beast Gullinbursti both carry this substitution clause, provided the other materials are also Nordic monsters. This quirk gives the deck unusual flexibility in assembling its Synchro plays without relying on a single bottleneck piece. The actual goal is to put one of the three Aesir Synchro Monsters onto the field, enormous boss monsters whose individual effects reward having specific Nordic monsters in the graveyard beforehand.

Setting up those plays typically begins with Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant, a Link-1 that banishes up to three cards from hand or field to Special Summon the same number of Nordic monsters directly from the Deck in Defence Position. That rapid field-filling bridges the gap between a modest Normal Summon — often accelerated by Dverg of the Nordic Alfar granting an extra one — and the Level-equation needed for a Synchro Summon. Nordic Smith Ivaldi further smooths the process by searching any Nordic Relic card on arrival, and Dverg recovers one from the graveyard when it leaves the field, keeping the spell and trap support accessible across multiple turns.

The deck skews towards going first, wanting to establish an Aesir monster behind Gullveig's protection, which denies targeting to whatever Aesir it points to. Alviss of the Nordic Alfar extends resources even after an Aesir is destroyed, able to revive one from the Extra Deck when an opponent's card sends an Aesir to the graveyard — a meaningful deterrent against removal that would otherwise end the deck's aggression outright.
