Playing Style
Facing a D/D deck, an opponent is immediately confronted by a board that seems to rebuild itself at every opportunity. The archetype generates its resources through a combination of Pendulum Summoning and Graveyard recycling, using cards like D/D Savant Copernicus to mill D/D and Dark Contract cards on arrival, while D/D Savant Kepler searches a Dark Contract the moment it touches the field. D/D Swirl Slime enables Fusion Summons directly from the hand, and D/D Necro Slime continues that work from the Graveyard by banishing materials already used. D/D Vice Typhon extends the plays further still, Tributing a D/D monster on Normal Summon to bring out a Level 7 D/D/D directly from the Deck, then following up in the same turn by Fusion Summoning a high-Level D/D/D using Graveyard materials.
The Pendulum engine is what allows the deck to maintain momentum through disruption. D/D Savant Galilei and D/D Savant Kepler establish wide Pendulum Scales, and cards like D/D Savant Thomas pull face-up Pendulum Monsters back from the Extra Deck during the Main Phase to keep the hand stocked. D/D Savant Newton and D/D Savant Newton recycle spent D/D and Dark Contract cards from the Graveyard by discarding themselves as cost. The deck's inherent self-damage from Dark Contract cards is a genuine concern across a long game, though the density of recycling effects means an opponent rarely has the luxury of waiting it out.
