Unchained Soul

Playing Style

Unchained Soul decks are built on a deliberate cycle of self-destruction and recovery. Rather than conserving resources, the deck spends its own cards — monsters, face-down Spells and Traps, and even pieces sitting on the field — to trigger cascading effects that replenish the hand and graveyard faster than the opponent can keep pace. Unchained Soul of Sharvara exemplifies this loop: it destroys a Fiend or face-down card you control to Special Summon itself from hand, then on being sent to the graveyard it sets any Unchained Spell or Trap directly from the Deck, meaning the destruction it causes immediately generates a follow-up resource.

The Link monsters anchor the deck's threat. Unchained Soul Lord of Yama searches any Unchained monster on Special Summon and, once it reaches the graveyard, can banish itself to revive a Fiend and destroy another card you control — keeping the destruction chain turning. Unchained Soul of Anguish and Unchained Soul of Rage both carry an unusual hijacking effect, borrowing an opponent's monster as Link Material to immediately Link Summon a DARK Link Monster, effectively converting the opponent's field presence into the deck's own climbing material. Wailing of the Unchained Souls rewards every Unchained Link Summon with a free targeted destruction, and punishes opponents who try to remove it by Special Summoning an Unchained monster straight from the Deck.

The deck plays well in either position but particularly punishes opponents who establish boards full of Special Summoned monsters, as Unchained Soul of Rage can hijack those monsters during the opponent's own Main Phase, turning their setup into fuel for a Link Summon of the deck's own choosing.
