Ritual Beast's engine turns on the moment a Tamer hits the field alongside a Spiritual Beast. Banishing both from the field produces one of the archetype's contact Fusion monsters from the Extra Deck without Polymerization, and that Fusion can then return itself to the Extra Deck to Special Summon the two banished materials back in Defence Position — immediately ready to be banished again for a second contact Fusion. Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk is the centrepiece of this loop, returning two banished Ritual Beast cards to the Graveyard each turn while searching any Ritual Beast card from the Deck, effectively generating card advantage each time the cycle completes. Ritual Beast Tamer Elder extends the Normal Summon to place a second Tamer on board, while Ritual Beast Tamer Wen and Ritual Beast Tamer Lara recover banished and Graveyard monsters respectively, keeping the recycling chain unbroken.

The deck's ambitions extend well beyond card generation. A developed field can layer Ritual Beast Ulti-Pettlephin's effect immunity, Ritual Beast Ulti-Nochiudrago's targeting protection for other Ritual Beast monsters, and the hand-trap negation of Ritual Beast Ulti-Gaiapelio, which banishes a Ritual Beast card from hand to negate and destroy any Spell, Trap, or monster effect on either player's turn. Ritual Beast Ambush and Ritual Beast Steeds provide traps to rebuild or clear the board outside the combo turns.

Where the deck is most vulnerable is also intrinsic to its design: the loop depends heavily on resolving multiple effects in sequence, so a single well-timed negation during the contact Fusion or bounce step can stall the entire engine before Gaiapelio's protection layer is established. Spiritual Beast Cannahawk's search effect also runs on a two-Standby-Phase delay, meaning patience is required to access key pieces from the Deck.
