Thunder Dragon is an archetype built from a web of self-discarding main deck monsters that trigger secondary effects whenever they are banished or leave the field by any means. The original Thunder Dragon searches up to two copies of itself from the deck when discarded, while Thunder Dragondark and Thunder Dragonmatrix each fetch their own name under the same condition and then generate additional advantage once removed from the field. Thunder Dragonhawk recovers banished or graveyard monsters when discarded, and Thunder Dragonroar retrieves banished or graveyard spell and trap cards before spawning a free monster from the deck. This chain of discard-and-trigger effects means the deck generates hand advantage and fills the graveyard simultaneously, setting up the banish conditions required by its larger monsters.

Thunder Dragon Colossus and Thunder Dragon Titan are the primary threats the deck aims to put on the field. Colossus shuts off opponent searches entirely, and Titan destroys a card on the field each time a Thunder monster activates its effect in the hand, pairing naturally with the hand-discard engine. Both can be summoned without Polymerization by banishing resources already accumulated through the early combo, and Thunder Dragon Fusion provides an additional Fusion Summon route while recycling into a search on later turns. Thunder Dragon Thunderstormech extends the engine further by reusing the discard effects of banished or graveyard monsters directly from the field, effectively doubling their trigger count. Thunder Dragonlord and Thunder Dragonduo offer additional pressure, with Dragonlord protecting a Thunder monster from targeting effects during the opponent's turn.
