The Tenyi archetype is built on an unusual internal logic: its Spirit monsters are Effect Monsters themselves, yet nearly every ability they possess triggers only while the controller has no Effect Monsters on the field, or while a face-up non-Effect Monster is present. This creates a deck that actively seeks out non-Effect monsters — primarily Synchro and Link monsters with no printed effects — as the foundation for its gameplan rather than as a finishing flourish.

The engine runs through a tight cluster of search and mill tools. Vessel for the Dragon Cycle sends a Wyrm to the graveyard and searches a second Tenyi Spirit, while Heavenly Dragon Circle tutors any Wyrm monster and later recycles itself from the graveyard to search a Tenyi card during the Main Phase. Tenyinfinity bridges into Flawless Perfection of the Tenyi at the End Phase, a Field Spell that not only shields non-Effect Monsters from monster effects but rewards the opponent's Special Summons with draws. Ashuna and Vishuda fuel early presence by banishing themselves to recruit from the deck or bounce a threatening card back to hand respectively, and Adhara loops banished Wyrms back to repeat the process. The Link Monster Monk of the Tenyi and the Synchro Draco Berserker of the Tenyi become live threats once a non-Effect Monster is established, with Berserker capable of banishing opponent monster effects on the spot and snowballing ATK from each Effect Monster it destroys in battle.

The deck favours going first, where Flawless Perfection of the Tenyi and Fists of the Unrivaled Tenyi — a Counter Trap that negates any card or effect while a non-Effect Monster is present — can lock down the opponent's development before they establish their own board. Draco Masters of the Tenyi provides further pressure by destroying opponent Effect Monsters in proportion to the non-Effect Monsters the controller holds, punishing any attempt to break through the established field.
