Playing Style

Opponents facing Memento encounter a deck that deliberately destroys its own monsters to fuel increasingly large threats. The archetype's internal engine runs on a cycle of self-destruction and recursion: cards like Mementotlan Dark Blade and Mementotlan Tatsunootoshigo destroy fellow Memento monsters on the field to either search or send additional pieces from the Deck to the Graveyard, rapidly populating the GY with the five differently named Memento monsters required to Special Summon Mementoal Tecuhtlica - Combined Creation. Mementotlan Angwitch accelerates this by searching any Memento monster on summon, while Mementotlan Shleepy converts the destruction triggers into an immediate Fusion Summon, most often bringing out Mementomictlan Tecuhtlica - Creation King, whose own summon effect sends three more Memento cards from the Deck or Extra Deck to the GY in one motion.

Once Mementoal Tecuhtlica - Combined Creation reaches the field, the deck shifts into a remarkably resilient control posture. The card answers each opponent's activated effect by reviving a Memento monster from the hand or GY, while Mementotlan Cranium Burst forces incoming attacks into it and lets it negate on-field monster effects by shedding ATK. Mementomictlan reinforces this by recycling spent Spell and Trap cards from the GY each End Phase and replacing destroyed monsters mid-combat. Mementotlan Akihiron extends the offensive threat by granting Level 9 or higher Memento monsters direct-attack access the turn it is summoned, meaning Combined Creation's ability to swing at every opposing monster can bypass a defended board entirely when the two are in play together.
