Martial Art Spirit

Playing Style

The card this deck most wants to resolve is Yoko-Zuna Sumo Spirit. When Normal Summoned, it sends every monster the opponent controls that shares a column with a Pendulum Zone card to the Graveyard, bypassing destruction and therefore dodging a wide range of protection effects. Positioning a Pendulum Zone piece in the right column before Summoning Yoko-Zuna is the central decision the deck makes each turn, and the rest of the Martial Art Spirit lineup exists to clear the way for that moment or to threaten it from a different angle.

Kai-Den Kendo Spirit extends that pressure to the monster zone directly, sending all cards in a chosen column rather than restricting itself to Spells and Traps, while Kuro-Obi Karate Spirit handles the backrow in the same fashion. Han-Shi Kyudo Spirit plays a different role on arrival: its Normal Summon bounces cards sharing a column with the Pendulum Zones back to the hand, then searches any 2400 ATK / 1000 DEF monster from the Deck — a line that recovers Pendulum Zone pieces and extends the hand simultaneously. Every member of the archetype returns to the hand at the End Phase if it was Summoned that turn, which means the deck consistently refreshes its hand rather than committing monsters to the field long-term.

That bounce loop makes the archetype naturally resilient to board wipes but demands careful column management turn after turn. Because each Spirit leaves at the End Phase, the deck cannot easily threaten the opponent through sustained field presence and instead wins through repeated column-based removal whittling the opponent's board down until a direct attack becomes viable.
