Lady of Lament is a Trap-based control archetype that needs very little to begin operating: a single Normal Summon of Lilith is enough to start flooding the field with disruption. Lilith's Quick Effect tributes any DARK monster to reveal three Normal Traps from the deck and force the opponent to randomly select one for immediate Setting, meaning the deck can theoretically access a hand trap, a negation, or a floodgate from as early as the first turn without having drawn any of those Traps naturally. Because Lilith only needs one tribute target to fire, Alice fills that role neatly — her Normal Summon revives a Lady of Lament from the graveyard, supplying a body to tribute while also extending the turn.

Recycling is where the archetype sustains itself beyond the opening turn. Loris recycles banished and graveyard Traps back into the deck in batches of three or six, drawing cards in the process, and can also Set a Normal Trap directly from the graveyard whenever a monster is tributed or an opponent's effect sends a Normal Trap to the graveyard. Malice offers a faster route: tributing two monsters to immediately Set any banished or graveyard Normal Trap, at the cost of returning it to the deck if it ever leaves the field. Alice rounds out the recovery loop by searching any Fiend whose combined ATK and DEF equals exactly 2000 when she is tributed or destroyed by the opponent, keeping the tribute fodder chain alive.

The archetype's reliance on Normal Traps means the specific Traps chosen for the deck largely determine how oppressive the end board becomes, giving the Lady of Lament engine considerable flexibility across different builds.
