The deck's entire game plan converges on Hazy Flame Basiltrice. With four or five Xyz Materials attached, Basiltrice becomes untargetable, indestructible by card effects, and capable of banishing one opposing monster per turn — a package that is extraordinarily difficult to interact with through conventional removal. Getting there requires stacking Level 6 FIRE monsters onto the field quickly, and the archetype has several interlocking pieces designed to make exactly that happen.
Hazy Flame Peryton is the engine that makes large pushes possible. Once on the field, it tributes itself and discards a FIRE monster to Special Summon two Hazy Flame monsters directly from the Deck, generating the material count Basiltrice needs in a single effect. Peryton itself can only be Special Summoned by another Hazy Flame monster's effect, so the usual line involves getting any member onto the field first — Hazy Flame Griffin arrives for free from the hand if the opponent controls a monster and the player's FIRE purity is intact, while Hazy Glory and Hazy Pillar each reduce Normal Summon costs by one Tribute and help feed additional materials onto an existing Xyz Monster. Hazy Flame Sphynx provides extra reach by potentially pulling a FIRE monster out of the Graveyard, keeping the momentum going after the initial push.
Because almost every monster in the archetype carries a targeting immunity, the deck is remarkably resilient against effect-based removal even before Basiltrice reaches full strength. The strict requirement that all monsters on the field and in the Graveyard remain FIRE makes it fragile against non-FIRE engine splashes, so builds tend to run close to a pure FIRE lineup to preserve Griffin's Special Summon window.
