Playing Style

The Fossil archetype spends its graveyard as its primary currency, loading both players' graveyards to fuel the summons of its Fusion Monsters through Fossil Fusion. That spell banishes Rock monsters from the player's side and any level-appropriate monster from the opponent's graveyard, letting the deck treat the opponent's discards and milled cards as raw material. Specimen Inspection accelerates this by steering what the opponent sends to their graveyard, while Miracle Rupture mills a Level 4 or lower Rock directly from the deck and draws a card when Fossil Fusion is already in the graveyard, turning setup into immediate card advantage.

The Fusion lineup is tiered by the opponent's graveyard level. Lower-level monsters fuel Fossil Dragon Skullgar, Fossil Warrior Skull Bone, and Fossil Machine Skull Buggy, each of which carries a banish-from-graveyard effect that recovers Fossil Fusion or searches additional pieces. Mid-tier targets like Fossil Warrior Skull Knight and Fossil Machine Skull Wagon unlock multiple attacks and spot removal. The Level 8 monsters represent the ceiling: Fossil Warrior Skull King steals opposing graveyard monsters during the opponent's turn, Fossil Machine Skull Convoy attacks three times and strips ATK equal to each monster's DEF, and Fossil Dragon Skullgios doubles all battle damage it inflicts. Time Stream then upgrades a lower-tier Fossil Fusion Monster directly into the next tier, treating the summon as a Fossil Fusion activation and keeping the graveyard recursion loop intact.

Flint Cragger and Weathering Soldier support the engine from the hand and field. Weathering Soldier searches Fossil Fusion or any card that mentions it upon leaving the field, and Flint Cragger seeds a Fossil Fusion Monster into the graveyard the moment it is special summoned, immediately enabling Miracle Rupture's draw and Fossil Fusion's own graveyard recovery trigger. Because so much of the deck's momentum depends on what the opponent has sent to their graveyard, the archetype naturally favours going second, where battle damage and repeated attacks across multiple Fossil Fusion Monsters can close out the game in a single Battle Phase.
