Playing Style

Opponents facing Ancient Warriors find their own monsters becoming liabilities. The archetype pressures through a persistent loop of destruction triggers — nearly every high-level member carries an effect that activates when a card the opponent controls is destroyed, turning each removal into further extension or recursion. Ancient Warriors - Fearsome Zhang Yuan destroys an opponent's card whenever that trigger fires, while Ancient Warriors - Deceptive Jia Wen pulls any Ancient Warriors card back from the GY under the same condition. Ancient Warriors - Ambitious Cao De can Special Summon itself from the hand each time an opponent's card is destroyed, then steal whatever it kills in battle. The deck is consequently very difficult to contain once momentum builds.

The engine assembles through its Continuous Spells and Traps, which the Level 4 monsters exploit by sending them to the GY to pay for search or disruption effects. Ancient Warriors Saga - Three Visits searches a monster on summon, Ancient Warriors - Graceful Zhou Gong fetches any Ancient Warriors Spell or Trap from the Deck, and Ancient Warriors - Eccentric Lu Jing destroys an opponent's Spell or Trap whenever another Ancient Warriors effect resolves. Ancient Warriors Oath - Double Dragon Lords knits these pieces together, adding any Ancient Warriors card on Link Summon and offering a bounce effect at Quick Effect speed.

Going first, the deck can establish negation through Ancient Warriors - Ingenious Zhuge Kong, whose Continuous Spell or Trap consumption lets it deny both Spell/Trap and monster effect activations. The reliance on multiple Continuous cards in the Spell and Trap Zone does mean heavy backrow removal can disrupt the deck's momentum before the destruction chain begins.
